Christchurch
Yesterday was our first day of consciousness in NZ. We are still in Christchurch.
I started the day with a run in Hagley park, the third largest park in the world, with a golf course, so the taxi driving lady told us.
Walked around the city with the children (we don't have a car yet, which is great) a large part of the inner city is still closed of due to the terrible earthquake last year. There is a sadness over the city. We went shopping in the new mall, made out of containers, saw two ladies and could only imagine what it must feel like to have to go Christmas shopping right next to the streets where you could still see the names of the shops, but now only bulldozers working on the rebuild.
The botanical gardens in Hagley park were beautiful, have never seen so many roses in one place before.
Now we need to get on with renting a car, heading to Akaroa later on where we are staying on a farm :)

What a journey
Hi guys :)
We have safely arrived in Christschurch. We feel great.
I wanted to tell you about the journey which went really well. The most stressful part was only 30 minutes after Thierry had picked us up in Lelienlaan... arriving in Brussels city, rond point Schumann and realizing that there was a traffic jam, which we hadn't calculated with on a Saturday afternoon.
Thank you Thierry for the good driving, I'm sure you saved us the crucial 10 minutes :)
Train was easy, one small technical problem in Lille, a little bit of stress.
Thunbs up for Emirates! Wonderful staff, good food, comfortable seats, you know as comfortable as they can be when sitting for 6,5 + 6 + 9 + 3 hours ;) It was a tough walking past the business class seats every time... one day... when I'm very rich ;)
The kids were so good.
We were all dizzy when we arrived last night, but with the help of the friendly New Zealanders we found this hotel and slept slept slept... it' now almost 10 in the morning and I think we're already jet lag free :)
Sending my love to you all!
By the way, it smells like summer, roses are everywhere!

The count down...
Ok, here it is then... the travel blog. Michel came up with the name trolls and hobbits... do you like it? I had other ideas like "to travel is to live" (taken) and FaroBelgiansonthemove (not so good I guess)
4 more sleeps and we're off! New Zealand here we come. The long planned break which will hopefully turn into an incredible adventure and then an unforgettable memory for the five of us is almost reality. It feels a bit strange, because we have been talking about the trip for a long time, but time passes quickly and here we are.
I would like the blog to be a shared working document, where all the participants can put down their thoughts and experiences from the trip or beyond.
